Florenceville Newsletter #1

Welcome to dance! Your first class will be Wednesday, September 9th at . Dancers will need black ballet/jazz shoes (except Pre-School tap only) and black tap shoes. Please do not purchase pink as dancers cannot wear them for the recital. We do not have a strict dress code, bodysuits are optional, our only requirement is no jeans, as they restrict movement. Dancers do not need to have shoes for the first class. If you do not have your shoes yet , please wear sneakers to class. For safety reasons , dancers cannot dance in sock feet.

We do not allow spectators during class as it is a distraction for the dancers, however we understand that parents want to see how their children progress so we invite you to return during the last five minutes of class. During the first couple of weeks we ask parents of our pre-school dancers to wait until they are settled and then quietly leave. If they are crying, please wait with them, Myself and our assistants will help ease them into class.

We will have used shoes available for the first few weeks of class. If you wish to purchase used shoes, please check the label, write the name and prices on the envelopes provided, insert your payment and give the envelope to Amanda. Please make cheques payable to the name on the shoes, not to Smith;s Dance Academy as they are not our property. If you have used shoes for sale please label them with your name and price and put them in the box. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen shoes.

To purchase new shoes or dancewear contact myself at amanda@smithdanceacademy.com or 325-2707.

We hope your dancer enjoys dancing. If for some reason they decide to withdraw, notification must be received by the week of the second class. Notification within the two week trial period gives another dancer the chance to enrol. After the two week trial period, refunds will not be given. We will accept new dancers for the first month of class, if there is room in the class.

If you haven't already, please take a moment to review our policy book. It can often answer questions you may have and it explains the reasons behind our policies.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact myself at amanda@smithdanceacademy.com, or 325-2707. As I am often in class, many times you will reach my voicemail, that is why the fastest way to reach me is via e-mail. I update the web-site often and encourage you to go to the newsletter page for the most current information www.smithdanceacademy.com.

We will have classes during Potato break, but if your dancer will be away, no worries! We will do a full review the first week after the break to ensure everyone is up to date.

An important note about storm days, if school is cancelled due to weather than dance is cancelled. We do not cancel on days for teacher meetings and parent-teacher interviews. On rare occasions when we have to cancel due to illness or sudden change in the weather, notifications will be put on the web-site, on CJ104.1FM and announcements will be made at the schools. I also try to send out e-mails or call parents though depending on the situation it is not always an option.

Thank you for choosing to have your child dance with Smith's Dance Academy. I am looking forward to an exciting dance year!
